With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, we know there will be a few of you hoping that on this romantic day you will be showered with surprises from your partner – including perhaps them getting down on one knee to propose.  Or perhaps, you’re planning to pop the question to your loved one yourself and have stumbled across our page looking for inspiration. We want to provide you with a guide to different engagement ring styles as well as our favourite picks for 2019!

Engagement ring styles can be daunting. After all, your loved one is going to wear this item of jewellery on their finger for the rest of their life, so you want to WOW them.

We caught up with Amanda from Blue Nile, an online ring retailer dedicated to helping you find the perfect ring for your partner, who gave us an insight into current engagement ring trends:

“Like anything in the wedding or fashion industry, engagement and wedding ring styles go in and out of vogue. Styles that have been trending for the last couple of years are straying away from tradition. We’ve been seeing more bands in yellow and rose gold, shaking it up from the white gold and platinum that had been more popular”.

“Also trending are coloured stones, either gemstones or diamonds. Couples are choosing engagement rings and wedding bands that more suite them as couples, including meaningful colours or stones in their sets. Engagement rings can feature one large gemstone, accompanied by diamonds as accents. Wedding bands containing gemstones are also a great way to integrate colour into a traditional set.”

Below we share with you 5 of our favourite engagement ring styles:

Five of our favourite engagement ring styles

Classic Solitaire Ring

Here at Not Your Average I Do, we love anything classy. In our eyes, classic doesn’t mean boring, but rather gives you the guarantee of a timeless piece. A classic solitaire ring is a single stone ring (sometimes with an embellished band) and this is perfect for girls that dream of the diamond ‘rock’. Make sure you invest in a quality gemstone as it’s going to be the centre of attention for your sophisticated bride.

You can’t flick through an on-trend wedding magazine or blog without seeing geometric elements. This popular wedding trend also blends perfectly into modern and slightly alternative engagement ring styles. This style of ring with unusual geometric cut diamonds and angular shaped bands is sure to complement the boho bride in your life.

Rose Gold

We love rose gold at Not Your Average HQ. And it’s a metallic colour palette which is here to stay for another season. We all have a preference between silver, gold and rose gold. For some of us it’s because one of these suits our skin tone best and for others it’s because we have that one sentimental piece (our 21st birthday present or a family heirloom) that we want all our other jewellery to match with. Rose gold is the perfect choice if you’re looking for something a little bit different to adorn your finger!

Princess Diana Style Ring

One of the most iconic ring styles ever made is the Princess Diana style blue sapphire ring. We’re obsessed. It is all sorts of elegance. It is said that Diana chose her ring herself from a selection of rings provided by Prince Charles – we love this! You’re going to have to wear it every day after all so why not pick it yourself. Diana was originally criticised for picking an off-the-shelf ring instead of having a custom-made piece, however shortly after, this ring became one of the most famous and popular styles ever produced. If you’re looking for a timeless and regal piece, this is it!

If your (better) other-half loves vintage style jewellery, thrifty hand-me-downs or items with their own history, its likely that they will love a vintage (or vintage-inspired) engagement ring. Opt for Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian or Art Deco original or replica pieces.

Create your own wedding rings

Once you’re engaged, why not do something truly romantic together and join Orla James  jewellers in Worthing, Sussex to create your own unique wedding rings together as a couple. You can either choose to hand design each other’s rings or make your own.

This would make a perfect ‘I-O-U’ Valentines present for your loved one if you are due to get married in the coming year.
