Happy New Year to all our lovely readers! We’re excited for the prospect of a new year and what this year will bring for us. Last year saw the NYA team win three national titles for the Best Venue Stylist in the UK. Our lighting and fresh foliage installations proved extremely popular and our Moon Arch was THE must-have decor accessory for ceremony backdrops and photo booths in 2018. We’re looking forward to what is in store for NYA for 2019 including the recent launch of Not Your Average Flowers. We can’t wait to work with our current and prospective couples throughout the year.

At Not Your Average, we LOVE unique and rare weddings. Following a trend doesn’t mean that your wedding must be the same as anyone else’s. Below we have detailed our favourite trends for 2019 and given direction of how to follow that trend a little bit differently…

Eco-Friendly Wedding

One of the biggest trends we expect to see through 2019 is the concept of eco-friendly weddings as couples become more conscious of the effect that their wedding can have on the planet.

We expect to see many more paper straws being used at wedding bars. Not only do they look cute but they’re good for the environment too!

With the increase in popularity of festival-style outside catering, you should also expect to see these caterers becoming more creative with the way in which they serve their food, from bamboo boats to food served in cardboard egg trays.

How about choosing bio-degradable confetti for your confetti line and if glitter is your thing, opt for eco glitter from Glitzerklub who aim to spread their “eco-glitter magic to let people and places shine with beauty and love”!

Pantone Colour of the Year – Living Coral

Ideal for weddings in any season as well a great statement for bold couples looking to make an impact; Living Coral is described by Pantone as “sociable and spirited” which “encourages light-hearted activity” – guaranteed to get your guests up on the dancefloor!

When deciding on your wedding flowers – let Not Your Average Flowers help you achieve this 2019 trend. Miss Piggy Roses, Coral Peonies or Dahlias are all recommended by our resident florist Lisa, from Not Your Average Flowers.

If you’re looking for a subtle nod to the Living Coral trend, just add small pops of colour in your wedding bouquet, ceremony backdrop or wedding stationery. Or why not try paper flowers for your bouquet so you can utilise the coral trend at any time of year.

Pampas Grass

As previously predicted in our Not Your Average Flowers Launch Blog, Pampas Grass is expected to be seen a lot more in the UK through 2019 and is one of our favourite wedding trends. We expect a move from rustic florals into wild and untamed; and Pampas Grass fits nicely into this shift. With outdoor weddings on the rise, free standing structures; natural arches; and soft furnishings displayed in wanderlust outside settings will be key in highlighting this fab trend.

Combine Pampas Grass with neutral, antique and sun-bleached palettes of coral, nudes and creams to nail this Boho look.

Neon Lighting

We’ve already seen this trend beginning in swanky nightclubs and boutique cocktail bars throughout 2018, but now we’re beginning to see Neon Lighting crop up at weddings too and we LOVE it.

Whether you opt for hired pieces with classic phrases or personalised signs for you and your love, this trend really will create Pinterest worthy photos from your day. Use soft colours and phrases to highlight your ceremony backdrop (why not hang from our Copper Altar); go bold and place in front of a botanical flower wall to create an incredible photobooth background (we have a gorgeous fake flower wall you can hire or we can create your own personalised wall for your day); or why not use coral neon lighting to nod to the Pantone colour of year.

Top tip -> If you decide to buy, rather than hire, your neon sign, it will make a fab wall hanging above your bed at home.

Personalised Scent for your day

A trend we are just beginning to see emerge is the idea of a scent for your wedding day. Smells can trigger vivid memories and emotions. What better way to take yourself back to what is sure to be one of the best days of your life than using a specific smell to do this that you can carry through to your marital home.

You could opt for the pre-made options such as the “Wedding Day” fragrance by Yankee Candle; have personalised labels made for your day; make your own candles as favours or you could personalise your own smell.
